When I talk about online marketing, I sometimes see my clients’ eyes glaze over. Or they tell me, “Online marketing doesn’t work for health coaches.” When I ask them how they know they say, “Well, I tried it once, and it didn’t work.”

Listen up: You don’t let your clients get away with that, and I won’t let you get away with it either. When your clients tell you, “Oh, I can’t exercise. I have bad knees,” you don’t say, “Oh, okay, no problem.” You say, “Great, we’ll find some low-impact exercises that won’t damage your knees.

When your clients say they’ve tried dieting but they still can’t lose weight, you don’t shrug your shoulders and give up. You work together until you find the root cause of the problem.

Guess what? Online marketing definitely works, but you need to do it correctly and consistently. Let’s take a look at what you might be doing wrong — and how you can fix it.

You Don’t Have a Plan or a Strategy in Place

When you fail to plan, you plan to fail. You know this. You probably tell it to your clients all the time. You might even have a giant poster with this phrase on the wall in your office. So why do you think you can just half-heartedly dabble in online marketing with no plan or strategy and succeed

It’s true that creating an online marketing plan feels incredibly daunting and overwhelming, but there are plenty of resources to help. I can help you create an awesome Facebook marketing plan that sets your health coaching business on a path to thrive!

You Aren’t Following the Rules

You made a plan, but you’re not sticking to it. You’re cheating — sneaking in days where you don’t meet your commitments, slacking off on your good habits, and substituting reading articles for doing the work.

Hey, you know better than that! You have to follow through on writing articles, and posting on social media if you want your online marketing plan to work. If you don’t want to use a full-time web designer, check out my free course on how to create a Facebook strategy you can implement on your own — with backup support from us when you need it most.

There are also some AMAZING books that you can read that will help you figure out the rules to online marketing…and just marketing in general.

Contagious by Jonah Berger

Jonah studied about the behaviors of people and what makes things go viral. This book tells you all the elements you need to create viral content. This is a must read if you are going to be creating content for your blog posts or social media. Think of it as the foundation on which to build your content strategy.

Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuk

Gary is the most honest, not-afraid-to-tell-the-truth guy I’ve ever heard of. He took his family business from $3M to $60M in just 5 years! This guy knows his stuff and I love everything he does (except for the swearing — eek! Do NOT watch his YouTube videos with kids in the room!). This book, though, is clean and is my Social Media Marketing bible. You will learn what to post and what not to post. You’ll also find helpful questions to review before posting on a specific platform. It’s a fantastic reference you should keep close by.

You Aren’t Willing to Put Time and Money into Online Marketing

Once more, I’m going to remind you to practice what you preach. Eating healthy isn’t always easy — or cheap. It can take time and money — but when you put in the time and money, you ensure that your body thrives. It runs at optimal level.

Marketing isn’t always easy or cheap either, but when you do it right, it can invigorate your business with a steady flow of new customers.

When you cut corners and fill your body with junk fuel, it responds with sluggishness, heaviness, and a general feeling of — bear with me, this is a technical term — crappiness. When you cut corners with your marketing, your business can’t grow. It can’t thrive. The clients who need your help can’t find you and connect with you.

But when you invest in your business properly, when you put in the time and the money to do your marketing right, the rewards are there. You can find and hire someone to train you to do your online marketing right, or you can learn it on your own — Google puts the world at your fingertips, right? The important thing is to take that plunge and get your health coaching business online and active. Your customers are already out there, just waiting for you to show up!
